Vicenza International Jewellery Fair 19 - 24 January 2013

Hello friends, I had the privilege of being able to attend the latest edition of the International Jewellery Fair in Vicenza a fortnight ago.

I have to highlight the large number of professionals of the jewellery sector in all its fields, who gathered there. I would also like to highlight the great diversity of trends and new airs in the jewellery sector. In some cases, in my opinion, they were right and in other cases, I think, with little projection.

I can define this fair as rich, rich in variety of ideas and rich in diversity of compositions and elements. I could see trends of many kinds, such as Thai, Turkish, Chinese, Italian, French, Spanish and others.

For me, the most characteristic feature of this fair is the predominance of coloured gems.  in large sizes for costume jewellery. With mix of very bright colours and breaking up harmonious combinations and frequently used in classical jewellery pieces. The extensive use of corundums, both rubies and sapphires, as well as beryls, all of which have been used in classical jewellery. large sizes, irregular sizes, with uneven shapes and often surrounded by black diamonds, brilliant-cut sapphires, green tsavorite garnets or yellow topaz. In short, a great explosion of colour, with limitless mixtures.

Sharma Gems

I appreciate, in general terms, a second-order coloured gemstone mounting enhancementsuch as topaz, agates, jades, aquamarines, onyx, quartz, etc.

In addition, from the point of view of the metals used, we can currently find in jewellery a range of assembly of jewellery in various types of gold. White gold, yellow gold and above all the most abundant, again, rose gold. To all this we add excessive use of the toilets used by employeeswith shades of brown, pink, greyish, black,... due to the great advance in electroplating, with the Germans at the forefront of this technique for many years.

To put it another way, jewellery is starting to be very modernised, becoming fashionablewhich, on the other hand, was about time. Very transgressive mixtures and practices are being experimented with. Different types of metals and components are mixed in a less shy way.

Undoubtedly, in front of this explosion of modernity and colours, and novel combinations, I was able to appreciate the static, the opposite, which is no less important, and I am referring to the pieces and the making, of the timeless classic jewellerywith important elements and classical pieces of jewellery that never go out of fashion. They still have their audience even in this day and age and I believe it will never cease. However, it is true that this percentage is increasingly increasing. reducing their numbers in the face of new trends and fashions.

By the way, it is worth noting the beauty of the city of Vicenza, a wonderful atmosphere, and a flavour in its streets that is hard to describe, highly recommended to visit, along with Verona to the north. Like much of Italy, an open-air "museum".
