What is "low" GOLD?

Surely more than one of you have heard in some conversations, possibly from older relatives, "...".this ring is low gold" or "this chain is low gold".". In the end, it is a colloquial way of saying that a piece of jewellery has more or less carat or thousandth of purity in its compositionIn other words, that the percentage of pure gold in that jewel is lower than in another jewel. Because the manufactured gold jewellery is a composition that ultimately contains a percentage of pure gold.the only one that exists. All the rest are alloys and compositions, when we talk about white gold, pink gold, low gold, etc. .... I will explain the differences and then give you a clear example, in the hope that it will be useful to you.

The Fine or "pure" GOLDis said to be from 24 Carati.e. it has 999.9 parts per thousand of pure GOLD.

Traditionally in Spainhas always been marketed as 18 carat goldThe content of which is 750 parts per thousand, i.e., 75% of fine or pure gold. Depending on the metals that are introduced in the remaining 250 parts, i.e. in the other 25%, different colours are obtained, with Silver we get yellow Gold, with Copper we get pink Gold and with Palladium or Nickel we get white Gold, etc. But all of them must be marked with the Official Contrast of 750 enclosed in an oval.

The 9 carat goldhas a content of 375 parts per thousand of pure gold, i.e., 37,5 % of fine or pure goldhalf the content of the 18-carat, thus its price is almost halved. It can have the same colour range as the previous one, and must be marked with the Official Contrast of 375, also enclosed in an oval.

In Englandis marketed in 9 carats practically all the jewellery sold. In the United States, it is 14 carats (585 parts per thousand of pure gold).

In Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and Norway, venden 14 Carats. Only France, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Spain use 18 carat..

When we talk about 9, 14 and 18 Carat we refer to all kinds of elaborate jewellery, such as rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc... And an example of a 24 Carat Gold product is in some cases the gold coin.
